How to jump start a car with a portable jump starter

Before you start
- Park in a safe place, hazard lights on
- Confirm the vehicle is 12V (most cars; not typical HV EV jump procedures)
- Charge the jump pack ahead of time — do not discover a flat pack in the rain
Basic procedure
- Identify battery positive (+) and negative (−) / solid ground point
- Connect red clamp to positive, black to negative/ground per your manual
- Power on the jump pack and wait for a “ready” / OK indication
- Start the vehicle; if it fails, wait and retry within the pack’s limits
- Power off the pack, remove clamps in reverse order, store safely
Common mistakes
- Reversed clamps — use smart clamps and watch polarity lights
- Jumping a visibly damaged or leaking battery
- Cranking endlessly — let the pack and starter rest
