Jump starter won’t work: troubleshooting
Most “dead pack” complaints are low charge, poor clamp contact, polarity faults, or a vehicle that needs a new battery — not a fake amp rating.

Check in order
- Pack charged? Plug in and wait for a full indicator
- Clean battery posts and clamp teeth — paint and corrosion kill current
- Polarity OK? Smart clamps often refuse to energize if reversed
- Follow the exact ground point in your manual (battery − vs chassis)
- Listen: rapid clicking can mean the car battery is deeply sulfated
When to size up or replace
If the pack is healthy but the engine only barely cranks in cold weather, you may need a higher amp class. If the car dies again within days, replace the vehicle battery — the jump pack is a backup, not a permanent fix.
